The InterNIC, is a domain name registry service, registering up to 6000 new domains every day. Domain names are allocated by the InterNIC on a first-come, first-served basis. A domain name such as "myname.com" is simply a universal address by which you and your organization are known on the net.  "myname.com" is a permanent, portable and prestigious representation of yourself or your organization. Once you have reserved your domain name, it will no longer be available.

InterNIC maintains a database. The names of the administrative and technical contacts you provide to InterNIC for your registered domains are automatically entered into the database when domains are processed by InterNIC.

In the near future, only obscure domain names will remain available to the general public.

Domain names are allocated by the InterNIC on a first-come, first-served basis. Once a domain name has been reserved, it is no longer available. The most popular and easily-remembered domain names are being reserved daily by aggressive companies and prudent businessmen/women.

A good domain name creates inherent value for the organization. Domain names that reflect the name of the actual organization (eg. microsoft.com, ibm.com) or the role of the organization (eg. carsearch.com, gifts.com) are an invaluable asset to their company.

As the Internet grows and domain names become more scarce, premiums for existing domain names will increase significantly. Already, many of the great names have been snapped up and are awaiting the highest "bidder."

Custom domain names, like vanity license plates, are much easier to remember than ordinary Internet addresses resulting in greater recognition and more traffic to your site.
